Band Director / Elementary Music Teacher
Job Description
The Band Director/Elementary Music Teacher will provide students with engaging and developmentally appropriate learning activities and experiences in music education. This role helps students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, fostering musical skills, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. The Band Director will lead the instrumental music program while also teaching elementary music classes, helping students develop the competencies and skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate music endorsement(s) for grades assigned
Demonstrated competency in instrumental music instruction and elementary music education
Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices in music
Ability to instruct students individually and in groups while effectively managing classroom behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
At least one year of student teaching or approved internship experience preferred
Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging instruction for both the band program (middle/high school) and elementary music classes
Prepare students for performances, concerts, and competitions as appropriate
Develop lesson plans that meet curriculum requirements and accommodate varying skill levels
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and administration to support student success
Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
Establish and maintain communication with students, parents, and colleagues
Manage and care for musical instruments and equipment
Promote a culture of excellence, discipline, and enthusiasm for music
